John Olin, III

John Olin III, son of John Olin II and Susannah Pierce, was born September 17, 1741 in East Greenwich, Kent, Rhode Island and died November 2, 1821 at Shaftsbury, Bennington, Vermont. He was married to Sarah Card 1764 at East Greenwich, Rhode Island. She died January 12, 1819. Both are buried in the cemetery at Shaftsbury Center, north of the church and near the highway, which passes along the west side of the yard. They had nine children:

Paris Olin

Born in November 14, 1765 in Rhode Island and died in childhood.

Hannah Olin

Born February 8, 1767 in North Kingston, Washington, Rhode Island. She died January 5, 1840 in Vermont. She married Nathan Green who was born about 1767 in Rhode Island or St. Albans, Vermont. He died November 13, 1859 in St. Albans City, or Franklin county, Vermont. No known children.

Sibil Olin

Sibil (aka Sibyl) was born August 21, 1768 in North Kingston, Washington, Rhode Island (alternate birthdate is September 13, 1768 in East Greenwich, Kent, Rhode Island). She died January 5, 1840 in Shaftsbury, Bennington, Vermont. She married 1767 in North Kingstown, Washington, Rhode Island to Arvin Bates who was born September 25, 1767 and died February 25, 1844. Their children:

  • Joshua Sherman Bates born January 9, 1790 in Shaftsbury, Bennington, Vermont, died March 14, 1864 in Kerkersville, Licking, Ohio. Married Anna Galusha (1793-1863).
  • Elizabeth Bates born February 23, 1794 in Shaftsbury, Bennington, Vermont, died May 16, 1868 in Shaftsbury. She married 1823 to Sylvanus Bates (1799-1867).
  • Minerva Waldo born July 4, 1796 in Shaftsbury, Bennington, Vermont, died July 4, 1825 in Perry, Wyoming, New York. She married in 1815 to Samuel Waldo (1795-1883).

Other siblings may include F. Elkahan, Philemon, Polly, Archibald, and Philemon.

Sarah Olin

Sarah (Sally) was born April 7, 1770 in Rhode Island and died in 1854 in Shaftsbury, Bennington, Vermont. She married Asa Green (1770-1849) and they had at least on child: Gideon Green (1792-1879).

Ezra was born March 23, 1772 in Washington, Kent, Rhode Island and died November 5, 1858 in Perry Center, Wyoming, New York. He married in 1794 to Ruth Green. More information on Ezra>>>

Henry Olin

Henry was born August 12, 1776 in Rhode Island and died September 26, 1877 in Austin Township, Mecosta, Michigan. He married Silence Greene. More information.>>>

Nancy Olin

Nancy was born May 4, 1779 in Washington, Kent, Rhode Island and died September 2, 1869 in Newbury Center, Geauga, Ohio. She married Case(y) Potter on November 8,1798 in Shaftsbury, Bennington, Vermont. It doesn’t appear that they had any children.

Joseph Olin

Joseph was born January 9, 1781 in Shaftsbury, Bennington, Vermont and died December 4, 1863 in Shaftsbury, Bennington, Vermont. He was married to Eunice Field (possibly aka as Emma Field). Eunice was born August 21, 1786 in Vermont and died February 21, 1853 in Shaftsbury, Bennington, Vermont. They had one known child named Betsey Naomi Olin who married Silas Stockwell.

John Olin, III and Sarah Card are buried in Shaftsbury Center, Bennington, Vermont.

Both John Olin II and III are listed in the DAR Patriot Index, page 504 and you could site Chapter III of “Biological Sketches of the Samuel Olin Family”, the Vermont Pay Roll, Stella Van Auken Barton also filed with the DAR and you could site her entry as it is the same as ours, page 154, along with the information from this history.
