Pike
Captain Benjamin Jarvis Pike born about 1728 in New York and died October 20, 1776 Newburyport, Massachusetts. He married possibly Sarah. Captain Pike was a Revolutionary War soldier and first settler in Floyd, Oneida, New York.
According to this History of Floyd, New York, ” Most of the early settlers came from New England, and as there were a large family of “Pikes” that were from the area of Amesbury and Salisbury, Massachusetts, several of which gave of their efforts to the war, evidence at this time would suggest that our Captain Pike came from there.” Captain Pike lived in Punch Bowl village but relocated to an area called “The Corners” where he constructed a tavern. Captain Pike was also the first postmaster in Floyd. This history describes their experience in Floyd but also mentions Jarvis. Benjamin and Sarah had the following children:
Benjamin Pike, Jr. born about 1753 and died March 26, 1823 in Newburyport, Massachusetts. Possible children of Benjamin:
- Adeline Pike born October 1, 1816. Either died very young or is an error in the records.
- Adelina Pike born October 1, 1818 and died June 29, 1833 at 17 years in Newburyport, Essex, Massachusetts. Never married.
- Ann Pike died March 22, 1832 at 21 years in Newburyport, Essex, Massachusetts. Never married.
- Benjamin Pike died September 27, 1824 in Newburyport, Essex, Massachusetts.
- Frances Haskell Pike was born February 15, 1821 in Newburyport, Essex, Massachusetts and died April 22, 1838 age 17 years same place.
Jarvis Pike born 1755 in Keyworth, Nottinghamshire, England and died April 22, 1835 in Newport Sullivan, New Hampshire. He married November 21, 1789 in Attleboro, Bristol, Massachusetts to Elizabeth Willis. Elizabeth was born June 10, 1764 in Brockton, Plymouth, Massachusetts and died June 7, 1844, Newport, Sullivan, New Hampshire. Elizabeth Willis was the daughter of Ephraim Willis and Elisabeth Gernsey. Children of Jarvis and Elizabeth:
- Caroline Pike was born May 19, 1783 in Floyd, Oneida, New York and died November 28, 1831 in Colosse, Oswego, New York. She married James Martin September 13, 1801 in Onedia County, New York. (See above)
