Card Family

Richard Card born about 1618, Newport, Newport, Rhode Island and died before 1675 married Rebecca (?-1674). After Richard’s death, Rebecca married George Hassell. Richard and Rebecca had the following children:

  • John Card was born about 1646 and died in 1705. He married twice, Martha Brenton and Martha unknown.
  • Joseph Card was born in 1648 and died October 13, 1729. He married Jane.
  • James Card was born January 1, 1649/1650 and died in 1706. (see below)
  • Job Card was born February 26, 1666 and died September 7, 1739. He married in November of 1689 in Newport to Martha Acres. He married May 28, 1716 to Margery Acres and married August 24, 1724 to Hannah Bull.

James Card born January 1, 1649/1650 in Newport, Newport, Rhode Island married Ruth Havens born 1674. He married secondly to Martha West 24 May 1703.

James and Ruth had the following children:

  • James Card was born in 1678 and died after 1733. He married Mary Whipple.
  • Jonathan Card was born in 1684-Aug 1733) married Mary Northrup and then Deborah Almy Hicks.
  • Peleg Card was born in 1685 in North Kingston, Washington, Rhode Island and died August 14, 1765. He married first on April 30, 1709 in North Kingston, to Rebecca Dolliver and second about 1726 to Elizabeth Aylsworth. He had several children by Rebecca and perhaps one by Elizabeth. His son, Phillip Card was born in 1710 in Kingston, Washington, Rhode Island and died May 10, 1784 in North Kingston, Washington, Rhode Island. See more below>>>
  • Ruth Card was born August 3, 1700. She married on November 15, 1720, Groton, New London, Connecticut to Samuel Whipple. He was born November 8, 1695 and died before 1760.
Phillip Card

Phillip was born in 1710 in Kingston, Washington, Rhode Island and died May 10, 1784 in North Kingston, Washington, Rhode Island. He married December 3, 1741 in Phillip Card was born in 1710 in Kingston, Washington, Rhode Island and died May 10, 1784 in North Kingston, Washington, Rhode Island. to Catherine Davis. Catherine was born in 1720 in Kingston, Washington, Rhode Island and nothing else is know about her at this time. They had the following children:

  • Welthian Card was born in 1741 (probably Kingston, Washington, Rhode Island)
  • Phoebe Card was born in 1743 in Kingston, Washington, Rhode Island
  • Sarah Card was born October 13, 1745 in East Greenwich, Kent, Rhode Island and died January 12, 1819 in Shaftsbury, Bennington, Vermont. She married John Olin III. See more about her family>>>
  • William Card was born in 1747 in Kingston, Washington, Rhode Island and died June 12, 1819 same place.
  • Peleg Card was born March 13, 1755 in Kingston, Washington, Rhode Island and died October 19, 1846 in Kingston, Washington, Rhode Island.
  • Elizabeth Card was born April 25, 1756 in Kingston, Washington, Rhode Island and died May 24, 1846 in Exeter, Washington, Rhode Island.

My great grandfather was James Card, b 12-01-1845 Braintree, Essex , England d. 1924 m 1861 to Martha Eade b 1847 d in 1887 dau Alice Card b 1876 Stoke Newington, Middlesex, d 1938 -USA who m Hardy Wilford in 1896 Leicester -migrated to USA in 1909 (Side note: arrived at Ellis Island 12-24-09 aboard the Lusitania) son Percy Edward b 1915 d 1995 m Ruth Marsh 1938.   1. I have some research on the card family dating back to Richard Card of Newport RI done by my father Charles H Card about 40 yrs ago which is quite extensive . Are there other members of the Card family that have similar interest?

    1. Thank you for writing. Are you willing to share your father’s research? I’d be happy to put it on my site and credit your father (and you). There are Card descendants out there in abundance. I don’t know how many are interested, but I have been able to establish a DNA connection with some of them on Ancestry. Have you done Ancestry’s DNA?
