Faulkner Family

The Faulkner family originated in Bedfordshire, England.

John Faulkner born between 1705 and 1707 and died in 1758. He was possibly married to Elizabeth Margaret Dove born in 1702. They had one son, William who was born in 1723 in Biddenham, Bedfordshire, England and possibly died in 1803. He married December 26, 1748 in Biddenham to Elizabeth Mackerness born 1727 in England. Elizabeth was christened on March 26, 1727 in Biddenham and was the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Mackerness.

William and Elizabeth had a son, Thomas Faulkner born in 1762 in England. Thomas married May 28, 1787 in Cranfield, Bedfordshire, England to Mary Kent. Mary was born March 14, 1762 in Dean, Bedfordshire, England to Robord and Mary Kent. They had 8 children. Their son, John Faulkner was born August 28, 1796 in Marston-Moretaine, Bedfordshire, England and died in 1844 in Winnebago, Winnebago, Illinois. He married July 28, 1812 in Marston-Moretaine, Bedfordshire, England to Elizabeth Two. Elizabeth was born October 21, 1792 in Marston-Moretaine, Bedfordshire, England and died January 2, 1883 in Winnebago County, Illinois. See the Two family below. John and Elizabeth had 12 children. Their son George’s family is below.

(Not sure if George Faulkner and his wife, Elizabeth (Colethrop) Faulkner emigrated before 1850 (possibly 1848) to Rockford, Winnebago County, Illinois. They traveled on the sailing ship “William Amido” just after their marriage. Elizabeth gave birth to a child during the seven weeks it took to cross the ocean. In the 1850 Illinois State Census it shows that a George and Elizabeth Faulkner of England had a 2-year-old son, William who was born on the Atlantic and did not survive. George traded a sow and her litter of pigs for 40 acres in Seward Township, on what is now Water Street in Rockford. He lived there for many years until his death in 1873. We have been unable to locate a burial place for George, but new information says that Elizabeth was buried in Iowa.

George’s son William Faulkner, Sr. was born May 7, 1856 in Rockford. He lived in Rockford all his life on a farm on the city limits where the local high school is now situated. The house is still standing on the corner. (see below)
