John Olin and Susannah Spencer

John Olin the first to come to this country was born about 1664 and settled in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. He married Susanna Spencer October 4, 1708. Susannah was born April 6, 1680, in Cambridge, Middlesex Cty, MA. She died April 12, 1719. John died March 28, 1742 in North Kingstown, RI. (Contrary to C.C. Olin's book, this date is taken from the probate record) Both John and Susannah lived out their lives in the home of their daughter Eleanor.

There are many accounts supposing John's origins. I suggest you check out my origins page to read the research done around this subject.

John Olin was a "tiller of the soil" and he selected his home near the headwaters of the beautiful Narragansett, and in sight of its surrounding groves and pleasant prospects he lived and reared his family.

John and Susanna Olin had the following children:

Joseph Olin b: August 29, 1710 E. Greenwich, Kent, RI m: May 18,1735 to Mary Aylesworth b: 1714.

John Olin II b: March 8, 1712 m. Susannah Pierce

Henry Olin b: 1719 d: 1823 had 4 wives

Eleanor Olin m: August 13, 1741 to Benjamin Carpenter b: October 5, 1719 d: 1759. Their children:

For such a small family the sheer magnitude of descendants is overwhelming. There is also the possibility of a son named Justin. However, there is no proof and it has been suggested that there were four Olins who migrated to the new world during this time and that Justin may have been the son of one of these men. However, most Olins (except the Swedish Olins who came later) are descended from the same John Olin. Note that John's son Henry had a son named Justin. Perhaps that is who they found?
