CALEB OLIN FAMILY

CALEB3 OLIN (HENRY2, JOHN ESQ.1) was born December 08, 1752 in Old Warwick, New Port Co., Rhode Island, and died August 07, 1838 in Potsdam, St Lawrence Co., New York. He married FREELOVE MITCHELL January 15, 1775. The FHC info states he was born in 1753 as well as his place of death in Potsdam. The 1753 date is also recorded in the DAR records book. He served in the American Revolution as an Ensine of Vermont and was a Pensioner. He grew up playing with Daniel Green (General in future years) and well into being one of the famed Green Mountain Boys according to the Olins to America Book.

One son is unknown to Caleb and the following children were found in the FHC files Thomas D., Maomi as respelled for Naomi, Rebecca and Sarah F.

ii. SOLOMON OLIN, b. March 05, 1798. He was married twice and was a doctor of medicine. He followed after the local doctor and studied his books as to his start in the practice of medicine. He also married twice.

iii. BENJAMIN OLIN, b. May 28, 1786. Ben was known to be married.

iv. JUSTIN OLIN, b. April 11, 1788.Justin was known to be married.

v. HENRY OLIN, b. September 03, 1792. Henry was known to be married.

vi. DAVID OLIN, b. January 16, 1795. David was married twice.

5. JOHNATHAN ESQ.3 OLIN (JOHN2, JOHN ESQ.1) was born June 17, 1737 in East Greenwich, Kent Co., Rhode Island, and died January 09, 1826 in Shaftsbury, Bennington Co., Vermont. He married ANNA GARDINER, daughter of SAMUEL GARDINER and MARY UKNOWN. Johnathan traces down to the Moss family line through his son Johnathan (Capt.) b. 9-5-1766m. Amy or Anna Johnson and d. Jun. 25, 1851 in Franklin Morrow Co., Ohio. Johnathan, Sr. served in the American Revolution as a Pvt, CS PS in Rhode Island. Info added to this family is from Dew-Etta Moss of Idaho Falls, Idaho.

6. JOHN3 OLIN III (JOHN2, JOHN ESQ.1) was born September 17, 1741, and died September 24, 1821. He married SARAH CARD 1764. John, III fought in the American Revolution as a Pvt. for Vermont.

7. GIDEON3 OLIN (JOHN2, JOHN ESQ.1) was born October 22, 1743, and died January 21, 1823. He married (1) PATIENCE DWINNELL. He married (2) LYDIA MYERS POPE. GIDEON OLIN: Gideon served as a Judge. To read the Olin book will give great insite into his career. He served in the American Revolution as a Maj. in Vermont.

Gideon and Patience had 8 children.

He married (1) HULDA SMITH June 15, 1806 in Addison, Addison Co., Vermont. He married (2) HEPSIBATH ANDREWS 1832. Title as to name or job is believed to be Deacon, Joseph Olin. He was indeed a decon in the Baptist church, from Olins to America book reference. Marriage city is assumed to be the same as Hulda's birth place by this researcher... Joseph had 2 or 3 more children by his second wife, Hepsibah (th) sp. as to FHC files. He was the fourth child of Caleb and Freelove.

He married AMY JOHNSON. Info from here on down is from Dew-Etta Moss. Amy's name could have been Anna also as noted by Dew. Johnathan was a Captain. Of what I do not know as to in the Army, Navy, etc???

He married FANNIE BARRETT January 01, 1833 in Canton, St. Lawrence Co., New York, daughter of OFFIN BARRETT and SYBIL BLOOD.His death date was found in the FHC files as well as being in Canton, NY. Fanny is the spelling for her name in the FHC files with middle name being Maria. She is buried in Canton, NY.

He married MARY BARRETT January 01, 1832. I am assuming that he is a Jr. as to the middle names being the same, but there is no record to date of father being M. for Mitchell. Upon Joseph's death Mary moved to Morley, New York for 11 years. They had a son with the initials of D. A. and their youngest being 2 1/2 at time of father's death. The older sons probably had their own families when she moved.

The middle name of Englesby could be a maiden name for grandmother back along the line. I need to know what county Ashfield is in for Mass. (Franklin County)
