Roger Amidon was born in 1614 in Bordeaux, Departement de la Girdone, Aquitaine, France and died November 11, 1673 in Rehoboth, Bristol, Massachusetts. Roger was a French Huguenot and emigrated to Massachusetts in 1629. He was a ship’s carpenter. He married about 1639 to a woman named Sarah and they had four children:

  • Sarah born December 6, 1640 at Weymouth, Massachusetts.
  • Lydia was born February 27, 1643 and baptized in Boston, Massachusetts.
  • Hannah was born in September 20, 1652 in Rehoboth, Bristol, Massachusetts and died in September 13, 1719 in Rehoboth, Bristol, Massachusetts. She married in 1666 to Jeremiah Wheaton. Their children: Hannah born July 3, 1666; Jeremiah born March 18, 1669; John born September 2, 1671; Sarah born September 29, 1673; Ebenezer born March 7, 1677; Nathaniel born March 6, 1670; Mehitable born April 4, 1681; and Nathaniel born March 6, 1683.
  • Ebenezer – nothing is known except for one record from the History of Rehoboth, by Bliss, he is listed as one who was advanced one shilling, six pence during King Phillip’s war.

He married on December 27, 1668 to Joanna Harwood. Joanna Harwood was born December 10, 1642 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts and died July 1, 1711 in Rehoboth, Bristol, Massachusetts. Joanna was the daughter of George Harwood b. 1615 London and Jane b. 1620 Salem, Essex Co, Massachusetts. Their children:

Philip Amidon, Sr. was born January 26, 1669 Rehoboth, Bristol, Massachusetts and died March 15, 1747 in Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts. He married May 27, 1698 in Rehoboth, Bristol, Massachusetts to Mehitable Perry (or Perrin). Mehitable was born April 30, 1680, Rehobeth, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Samuel Perry and Mary Millard. Philip was a gentleman of good estate and was much esteemed and interested in public affairs. Philip and Mehitable’s children:

  • Henry Amidon was born Feb 8, 1699 in Rehoboth, Bristol, Massachusetts m. Meltiah (or Mallatiah) Cheney born Oct 14, 1690 Mendon, Worcester, Massachusetts. Meltiah was the daughter of Joseph Cheney and Hannah Thurston.
  • Roger Amidon was born February 6, 1700 in Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts. He married to Elizabeth Hawkins on October 27, 1731. [Some records show 1702 as his birthdate. If so, then Ithamar would be his mother] (See below)

Philip’s second married was on September 16, 1700 to Ithamar (or Ethemore) Warfield. She was born March 28, 1676 to Deacon John Warfield and his third wife Hannah. She died July 1, 1711 in Rehoboth, Bristol, Massachusetts. They had the following children:

  • Ichabod Amidon born May 1704 and married May 7, 1732 to Margery Aldrich.
  • Mary Amidon born March 30, 1706 and married Benjamin Chamberlain.
  • Phillip Amidon born 1708 married Submit Bullard.
  • Ephraim born 1710 and died April 13, 1786 married February 24,1743 to married Hannah Smith.
  • Ithamar Amidon born April 25, 1712 and died before 1743. He married Ruth Curtis on January 5, 1736.
  • John Amidon was born May 19, 1713 and married Sarah Hastings on July 14, 1737.
  • Hannah Amidon was born Februry 2, 1717.

Roger Amidon, Sr. son of Phillip, Sr was married to Elizabeth Hawkins. She was born in 1715 in Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts to Thomas Hawkins. She died in 1745. Their children:

  • Rachel Amidon was born September 28, 1732 (must have died young)
  • Elizabeth Amidon was born July 18, 1734 and died April 16, 1816. She was married January 16, 1760 in Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts to Joseph Kingsbury.
  • Roger Amidon, Jr was born November 11, 1736.

  • Samuel Amidon was born June 18, 1741 (must have died the same year).
  • Samuel Amidon born October 13, 1742.
  • Rachel Amidon born February 20, 1744 and died May 31, 1825 in Readsboro, Bennington, Vermont. She married Benjamin Currary.
  • Roger Amidon. Jr. born May 12, 1747.

Jeremiah Amidown, Sr. (note change in spelling) son of Roger Amidon, Sr. was born November 12, 1738 in Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts and died May 31, 1812 in Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts. He married January 23, 1769 in Douglas, Worcester, Massachusetts to Elizabeth “Betsey” Martin. Elizabeth was born in 1740 in Douglas, Worcester, Massachusetts and died October 10, 1826 in Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts. Children of Jeremiah and Elizabeth were:

  • Mary Amidown was born May 13, 1764 (must have died young)
  • Mary Bathsheba Amidown born March 4, 1766 in Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts. (must have died young)
  • Elizabeth Amidown born April 30, 1768 in Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts and died November 19, 1841 in Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts.
  • Lucy Amidown was born 5 December 1769 in Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts and died November 19, 1841 in Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts. She married Lemuel Moffitt in 1790. See more about Lucy’s family>>>
  • Isaac Amidown was born January 28, 1772 in Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts and died August 21, 1859 in Webster (or Uxbridge), Worcester, Massachusetts.
  • Mary “Molly” Amidown born August 29, 1773 in Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts and died March 16, 1861 in Readsboro, Bennington, Vermont. She married Elihu Harwood April 1795. ( Elihu was of Sutton and they had one child: Elihu Harwood. Elihu, Sr.’s ancestors were from Salem, Massachusetts, some of whom had become land proprietors in Sutton on it’s first settlement.
  • Lois Amidown born September 14, 1775 in Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts and died in Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts.
  • Sarah Amidown born August 14, 1777 in Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts and died September 10, 1811 in Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts.
  • Jeremiah Amidown born 31 Mar 1779 Oxford, d. 14 Dec 1865, Richmond, Cheshire, New Hampshire. He married
  • Samuel Amidown born January 28, 1781 in Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts and died February 16, 1827 in Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts. He married August 28, 1809 in Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts to Lucy Humphrey. Lucy was born July 7, 1787 in Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts and died January 27, 1865 in Springfield, Hampden, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Ebenezer Humphrey and Ruth Shumway.
  • Lurania Amidown born February 1786 married Lyman Wetherell April 26, 1807. Lyman was born in Dudley (see Dudley Records). The family trace their ancestry to Rev. William Wetherell of Scituate, who was established there as a clergyman in 1658 and died in 1684.
  • Samuel Amidown married Lucy Humphrey on August 28, 1809
  • Lurania Amidown was born February 11, 1786 in Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts and died November 1876. She married Lyman Wetherell on April 26, 1807 in Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts. Lyman was born April 26, 1781 in Dudley, Worcester, Massachusetts and died July 14, 1865 in Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts. He was the son of Joshua Wetherell and Hannah Williams.
